Lucha VaVOOM ─ Los Angeles’ longest running, most celebrated action-packed variety show where electrifying Mexican masked wrestling, burlesque and comedy collide in one delicious package ─ is set to celebrate 10 years of Cinco de Mayo craziness with EVEN MORE world-class talent over three blowout nights. “Cinco de Mayan” returns Friday, May 3, Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5 to The Mayan Theater (1038 S Hill St.) in downtown Los Angeles for a special all-access/one price ticket (on sale now at LuchaVaVOOM.com).

Lucha VaVOOM’s hometown faithful should brace themselves as this year’s three-night non-stop party will feature a huge helping of lucha libre-style wrestling straight from Mexico City, Tijuana, Guadalajara, and Juarez (think WWE with more action!); high-octane performances from world-renowned talent (literally, world-record holders featured in this year’s lineup); plus, plenty of tamales and tequila, minis, Aztec dancers, aerialists, hula hoops, lowriders, comedy (straight from Comedy Central and Netflix), live music, folkloricos from Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet, mariachis music from Mariachi Alma y Corazon, cumbia, free photo booth, and more.

This year’s shows will include a special musical appearance by Bermuda Triangle-born, booty bass master Otto Von Schirach, aka the “Miami Wildman.” Half Cuban/half German and one of a kind human/alien, Schirach’s magical presence and energy makes crowds overwhelming happy. This Miami native (whose been covered by VICE Portugal, Noisey, Spin, and Miami New Times, among others) puts out many different types of epic electronic music and always has new life and sounds to share, hence he is always touring around the earth. His shows are more of a sonic ear cleanse, aura cleanse and will magnify your pineal gland! Click here to watch his video for "Tipo Tropical.

Also confirmed to perform is Guadalajara-born and El Paso-based garage-punk band Le Butcherettes — Teri Gender Bender (vocals/guitar/piano), Alejandra Robles Luna (drums), Rikardo Rodriguez-Lopez (guitars/synth) and Marfred Rodriguez-Lopez (bass). Equal parts cerebral poetry, art assault, and primal punk cacophony, the band just released their fourth album, titled bi/MENTAL (Feb. 1st on Rise Records), featuring production assistance from iconic Talking Heads and Modern Lovers member Jerry Harrison. The line-up for this year’s Cinco De Mayan shows features: professional lucha libre wrestling matches (between Templario, making his LVV debut, giant superstar luchador Diamante Azul, the irrepressible dynamic duo of Matt Classic and Matt Classic, Jr., Magno “The Man Mountain” Rudo, Dirty Sanchez, and Crazy Chickens), high-octane performances (from the divine Russian-born, L.A.-based alternative model and burlesque performer MOSH (hailed as "one of the world's leading alternative and fetish models" by Model Mayhem), Natasha Estrada (former “Miss Viva Las Vegas” from Michelle L’amour’s Pretty Funny comedy and burlesque striptease production), and Marawa The Amazing (the world conquering hoola hoop master and owner of 12 world records)). Plus, stand up comedy duo The Sklar Brothers will host Friday’s show alongside Jeff Davis (hosting all three nights), delivering insanely off-the-cuff commentary.

The Los Angeles-based duo of Randy and Jason Sklar have released six critically acclaimed comedy albums, have had two Comedy Central Half Hour Presents specials, and currently have a one hour stand up special on Netflix, titled “What Are We Talking About” and another one hour special on the Starz Network called “Hipster Ghosts.”

Doors for this 21+ event open at 7:00pm on Friday/Saturday (with the show starting right at 8:00pm) and on Sunday doors open at 6:00pm (with the show starting right at 7:00pm). Attendees to the Friday/Saturday shows can stay and dance all night at The Mayan after the show. Special all access tickets (standing and balcony seating) are on sale now at $48.50. About Lucha VaVOOM:
For 15 years, Lucha VaVOOM has been delivering arguably the most electrifying shows on earth with a mind-blowing mix of Mexican masked wrestling, burlesque and comedy. Founded in Los Angeles in 2002 by Rita D’Albert and Liz Fairbairn, Lucha VaVOOM -- voted Los Angeles’ “Best Burlesque Show” by LA Weekly for 2012 and 2013 -- is good vs. evil played out in quick, exhibition-style, one-fall Lucha Libre matches for maximum enjoyment and action. Lucha VaVOOM has created a Los Angeles tradition: from the low-rider car parade escorting the performers as the crowd enters the iconic Mayan Theater, to the local luminaries they attract (Drew Carey and Jack Black have sat in), to burlesque (which was revived right here in Los Angeles), to Lucha Libre, where masked heroic wrestlers, in character-driven style, flip, fly and amaze. It all comes together to make one fun, surreal, glam-bam spectacle of raucous entertainment. You could say it’s a wrestling show for people that don’t like wrestling (and those that do). The Los Angeles Times said, “Far-out flamboyance always prevails at Lucha VaVOOM, a spectacle of Mexican freestyle wrestling with an L.A. twist (7/9/06).”

At Lucha VaVOOM, they like a little sexo with their violencia. In between matches, the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world wow the crowds with their unique striptease skills, including raucous aerial acts, daredevil roller-skate girls, and Guinness-World-Record-holding hula-hoop hotties. The Los Angeles-based performance troupe has regularly sold out 1,000-seat venues across the globe (Amsterdam, Calgary, Toronto, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Portland and Philadelphia, among many other cities), performed at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and Big Day Out Festival in Australia since its birth in 2002 and call Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater -- an elaborately appointed, 1927-built former motion-picture palace -- home when not on the road. Here's a sampling of what the press has to say:

“It’s what performance art often aspires to be, a mash of the unmixable.”
KCRW, October 26, 2017

“After 15 years, Lucha VaVOOM is practically as historic to Los Angeles as the Moulin Rouge is to Paris.”
- LA Weekly, February 8, 2018

“Lucha VaVOOM…triumphs in Los Angeles”
- BBC Mundo, October 31, 2017

“…may be the best bang-for-your-buck entertainment in town.”
- Thrillist, April 28, 2017

“…no one that puts on a better lucha libre show than the folks at Lucha VaVOOM. Far wackier and wilder than most professional wrestling…Lucha VaVOOM lets its freak flag fly…”
- Nerdist, October 25, 2015

“Lucha VaVOOM is an underground celebration of all things perfect in this world…Lucha VaVOOM is what will pass for primetime entertainment when the polar ice caps finally melt and there’s not a single drop of oil left to be squeezed from the planet. In the post-apocalyptic future Lucha VaVOOM’s mix of ‘sexo y violencia’ will replace the Super Bowl, the Internet, and daytime television as humanity’s primary form of entertainment.”
- Complex, February 20, 2015
