On Saturday, September 17th, downtown Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) will proudly unveil their next solo show with the award-winning and internationally celebrated artist Messy Desk, entitled Messy Desk in the Cloudy Wonderland, in Gallery 3.

The work of Hong Kong-based Jane Lee, aka Messy Desk, is full of joyful characters and animals, happy faces interwoven between buildings, rainbows, and even outer space. Her art is carefully crafted, stroke after stroke, and the result is high density landscapes with an explosion of color. Frantic as it might be at first glance, after close inspection, Messy Desk’s art is full of emotional stories, like charming little treasures hidden in plain sight, awaiting to be discovered. Her mural paintings have been exhibited in China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, the U.S., UK, and Poland, which received an environmental design award from Urban Forms in 2015 (click here to view).

Having contributed in many group shows at CHG, Messy Desk in the Cloudy Wonderland is just the second solo for the artist at the gallery, following her mini-solo Messy Desk's Friends in Wonderland featured in CHG’s 5-Artist Exhibit (May 2021). Regarding her upcoming show, Messy Desk shares, “This series of paintings is an inspiration of daydreaming. When I daydream, I look into the blue sky or the starry night. I can see my cloudy playground. My friends are playing hide and seek. Their little adventures are recorded in my paintings. I wish everyone can feel the same sense of freedom from my artwork and be relieved from the stress of real life.”

Messy Desk in the Cloudy Wonderland opens Saturday, September 17th from 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm in Gallery 3, alongside solo shows from Kristen Liu-Wong, entitled Hard Pressed, in Gallery 2 and Ben Frost, entitled Friends in High Places, in the Main Gallery.
